Like many others, I decided to try a 50 foal challenge. I really wanted to see the differences in genetics so I opted for the 2 mare route.
*edit: I know there isn't much story going on in the beginning, but it starts to pick up after a bit. Please bear with me, I'm pretty new at this.
Here are the rules for anyone who is unfamiliar with the challenge: http://forums.thesims.com/en_US/discussion/770712/official-rules-50-foals-challenge-sims3/p1
Meet Prairie and Desi:
Prairie is a much edited version of the Arabian in game, with a slightly edited version of Ilandra's Flea-bitten grey coat found here: http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/440576.page. My inspiration (and model) for her is one of my old Breyer horses, a Bloody Shoulder Arabian, and I had made my own custom coat for her originally but I liked Ilandra's version better so I edited in the bloody shoulder markings and changed some colors a bit. Desi is the mustang model that came with the game, and Ilandra's Buckskin coat color. I had fully intended to make my own buckskin previously as well but I saw theirs and knew there was no way I could make something better than that (plus it saved me a lot of time.)
To take care of these pretty girls and their multitudes of offspring I brought over a sim from another one of my saved games, a legacy that I'm playing around with (again kinda for genetics purposes), but in her original save file she was passed over as the heir in favor of her twin. She was also green, but we can ignore that for now. Anyway, after a very minor makeover and a wardrobe change Teila Chroma moved into the Sunflower Shack, across from the Riffin household.
This is Teila:
Both mares were taken to the Equestrian center and bred with Breaker first. Prairie got to have foal number 1, a filly named Honeypie. Her white ears amused me.
And Honeypie all grown up (no, this is not the only time Teila chooses to train her horses while in her pajamas):
Desi's foal, number 2 and this time a colt by the name of Buecephalus was much more plain than his half-sister.
Buecephalus all grown up, next to Honeypie being trained:
While they were still foals Teila realized she was having difficulty keeping herself fed (with decent food that is) while trying to manage the ranch and tend to her tiny garden, so she called up her sister, Fern, to help out. Fern is responsible for cooking all the food, while helping out with the horses and filling up their house with all the tiny critters she finds. Teila still takes on the task of training the young horses, as well as most of the horse care, her garden, and entering competitions for supplemental income. Fern also got a makeover (she is no longer blue for one thing), but she still takes a back seat and lets Teila run the show this time around.
This is Fern (who can also be seen in the above picture enjoying her breakfast):
